PIERCING AFTERCARE

CLEANING SOLUTION

A sterile, pre-packaged saline solution with no additives is available at the studio. This is an ideal choice for piercing aftercare due to its ease of use and convenience.

Alternatively, you can also create your own sea salt solution. Dissolve 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized (iodine-free) sea salt into one cup (8 oz / 250 ml) of warm distilled or bottled water. A stronger solution is not better. If it is too strong, it can irritate the piercing.

GENERAL PIERCING RULES

Initially, some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising is normal. During the healing process, some discolouration and itching are normal. The tissue may tighten around the jewellery as it heals. Secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) can also form a crust on the jewelry.

It’s very important to wash your hands before cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason. Soak your piercing in a saline solution for five to ten minutes at least once per day. For certain piercings, it may be easier to apply saline using clean gauze or paper towel.

CLEANING YOUR PIERCING

Using a gentle soap that is free from dyes, fragrances, and triclosan, gently lather around the piercing. Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of soap from the piercing. It is not necessary to rotate the jewellery.

When drying your piercing, gently pat with clean, disposable paper products. Cloth towels can harbour bacteria and snag on jewellery, causing injury.

To clean inside the mouth, rinse with a cleaning solution for 30 seconds after meals and at bedtime (4 – 5 times daily) during the entire healing period. Cleaning too often or with a rinse that is too strong can cause discolouration and irritation of your mouth and piercing.

ISSUES OR INFECTIONS

Improper care can lead to a variety of issues, including infection. If after 4-5 days your piercing is very painful, yellow or red, raw, oozing, or bumpy, it may be infected. Please contact us directly to confirm whether your piercing has become infected or not and for any other issues.

TATTOO AFTERCARE

Aftercare starts as soon as your tattoo is done. Following a proper aftercare regimen will help your tattoo heal faster, reduce the risk of infection, and minimize any peeling, flaking, or scabbing.

BANDAGE REMOVAL

Following the completion of your tattoo, it’s important to remove the wrapping after 4-6 hours (unless otherwise specified) and wash your tattoo with unscented, antibacterial soap. Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or let air dry. New tattoos can commonly weep blood and plasma underneath the bandaging, so it’s important to clean it properly and let it air out afterwards.

TATTOO HEALING PROCESS

During the two-week healing process, consider your tattoo an open wound, and treat it as such. Wash it daily and apply a tattoo aftercare balm or an unscented, acid-free, and petroleum-free moisturizer 2 to 3 times daily. It’s important to avoid picking or scratching your tattoo, avoid abrasive contact, and do not submerge it in water (bathtub, swimming pool, etc).

Choose an unscented, acid-free, and petroleum-free moisturizer. When applying your moisturizer, be sure not to over-apply it. Using the wrong type of moisturizer or over-applying can interfere with the healing process. It is better for your skin to be a bit dry than over-moisturized.

INFECTIONS

Open wounds have the risk of becoming infected, commonly from improper care. If your tattoo is very painful after 4-5 days or is yellow or red, raw, oozing, or bumpy, it may be infected. Please contact us directly to confirm whether your tattoo has become infected or not and receive proper care instructions. Antibiotic ointment can be used to treat minor infections; however, more severe cases may require more intensive medical treatment.
